MMU Sweeps Top Spots at Cisco Competition


On 2nd April 2011, MMU swept the top stops at the 6th Cisco Malaysia Networking Skills Competition, also known as the Malaysia Netriders 2011. The university sent 15 representatives to Kolej TAR in Setapak to compete against more than 200 other contestants and walked away with 5 awards!

The awards bagged were: Best Academy Award (MMU Cyberjaya), Individual Champion (Chang Eng Siang), Individual 3rd Place (Shum E Han), Individual 4th Place (Lim Kian Shuen), and Individual 7th Place (Ong Juin Hau).

Malaysia Netriders 2011 drew hundreds of competitors and observers from universities, colleges and polytechnics, both public and private, from all over Malaysia. These included UM, UiTM, UTM, UMP, UniKL, UTAR, and KTAR.

The champion, Chang Eng Siang, will proceed to the Cisco Asia Pacific Networking Skills Competition to compete against participants from 14 – 16 countries in the Asia Pacific region this October.

The competition included two segments, Networking Theory (MCQs) and Networking Skills. The latter was tested using Packet Tracer, a Cisco simulation software.

Also in attendance at the competition were officials from the Ministry of Human Resource (MOHR) who were seeking candidates to compete in the Worldskills Competition (Skills Olympics) this October in London. Together with Shum E Han, Chang has been invited by the MOHR officials to the Worldskills selection on 18th and 19th April at CIAST, Shah Alam.

Since 2006, MMU has emerged champions in this competition 5 times. Cyberjaya Campus won 4 times, while Melaka Campus won it once.
